How to find me time as a mom
Morning
Sleep can be so precious as a mom. If your kids are in a good spot with their sleep than you should make it a habit to get up at least 30 minutes before they do. I know this might be hard! I fought my own advice at first, too! But there is how to make it work.
Set an alarm everyday for the same time. Make your alarm something pleasant to wake up to. Instead of debating going back to sleep, have something that you can look forward to getting out of bed for. For me, it’s a fun coffee creamer and a cup of coffee I can drink while it’s hot.
As you practice getting up early, your body will start naturally waking you at this time. Plus, I promise you that you will love the calm before the storm. Take this morning time to enjoy the quiet, create a morning routine. and be ready for when your kids get up.
After bedtime
How glorious is bedtime?! Don’t use this time to clean up, work or watch endless amounts of TV. Instead, sneak in some you time once or twice a week by letting the house stay a mess and taking a bath, doing a face mask or enjoying a new book.
Naptime
Naptime is one of the few times of day that you can do something kid-free. Be really choosey with this time! Think about what you are doing during naptinme and ask yourself if it can be done with the kids instead. I used to do laundry and dishes during my son’s nap but I can totally do that while he is awake. Don’t waste naptime!
Also, learn how to how to find me time as a mom during nap by taking a few days a week to do self care instead. As soon as your baby lays down, forget about chores and get straight to reading a book, taking a nap or your favorite self care activity. Learn to be more productive in other part of the day so you can enjoy naptime!
Independent Play Time
Start teaching your kids how to play independently so that you can have more you time. It might not make sense to paint your nails while your kids are playing but you can read, workout or have a cup of tea.
Get Help
Find more me time as a mom by getting help. Start by talking with your partner on how he can help you get some you time. Some days my husband takes our son on a 30-40 minute walk so I can do something for myself and it helps a ton! You can ask your parents, family or friends to help out for a little bit, too.
You could also hire a babysitter. One thing I like to do that doesn’t cost a lot is I belong to a gym that has daycare. So everyday, I get a break from responsibility and get more me time to take care of myself by putting him in the gym daycare. Plus, it’s really affordable!
Learning how to find more me time as a mom can be hard at first. With these ideas, you find a better mom balance and become a better you. You have to take care of yourself before you take care of everything else! Start today!
